One day you should probably give writing fiction a go! It's a lot of fun. Not that I ever write fiction, you understand...

    Congrats on your first anniversary!

I'll be composing a rejoinder to this article shortly - why we choose to blog is an interesting enough subject to warrant going away and thinking about it a bit.

I have a question though - one which I'll try and address myself - do you think that a certain amount of self-awareness on the part of the writer is necessary in order to produce a good blog?

Bravo Dan. The site looks better than ever and your quality of writing is something to be desired.

I remember some moons ago when I started making noise about blogging probably 4 years or so ago. I found Blogger and tested the waters looking for a sinple way to publish to the web (Radio Userland was also on my list but needed an installable client). I saw blogging then as a means to captures one's thoughts but primarily in a project context - maybe as a project diary. My greatest level of interest came from using a blog as a knowledge management tool.

Since then everyone has carved their own niche in the 'blogosphere' and I think everyone has managed their time in the spotlight. You've had your iPod recognition, you and Steve had your JK Rowling moments, Ashleigh has achieved fame with his *ahem* video phone posting and his recent PS3 rumblings on BlogCritics and I had 15 minutes of fame for being the first person to post about Windows Live Writer.

I agree completely, it's fun, it's rewarding and everyone has got something to share.

congratulations on yout first year of Blogging. And thanks for setting me up with mine. and for links to so many other great blogs. Certainly, for me, its the long tail of blogs by ordinary people on all sorts of stuff that bring me back and keep me interested. Its a wonderful escape from celeb claptrap drivel journalism, a chance to hear from us non-famous folk what interests us. Well that's my thought. Great to share it with you.
